In the many times we have presented our latex couture at fashion shows, runway events, art galleries, or parties, we have noticed that you can pretty much set up anywhere to show off great ideas, celebrate social gatherings, and reveal cool clothes. But presenting a fashion show in a world-renowned spot synonymous with classic art, the combination of place and wardrobe can’t help but be a winner.
It was just announced that the Louvre Museum in Paris will celebrate its first-ever fashion exhibit, Louvre Couture: Art and Fashion — Statement Pieces, opening January 24th. Furthermore, the venerable art mecca is connecting this exhibit to the “Le Grand Dîner du Louvre” fundraising gala scheduled for March 4th, during Paris Fashion Week, which runs from March 3rd to the 11th. The Louvre has already auctioned more than thirty tables and reports that it reached its fundraising goal of €1 million for this opening event.
This new Louvre exhibit traces how precious objects from the Byzantine era, all the way through to the 2nd French Empire fueled designers’ imaginations well into our present day. Featuring nearly seventy outfits and thirty accessories displayed with items from the Louvre’s permanent collection of decorative art objects, this showcase is slated to run until 7/21.
The “Louvre Couture” show marks the first time the museum has used its collection in relationship to fashion in this particular way. Designers like Dries Van Noten, Dior, and Balenciaga (to name but a few) will be displayed in the nearly 10,000 ft. space that showcases only some of the museum’s massive collection. That collection includes artifacts, instruments, ceramics and so much more.
The gala will start with a reception allowing attendees full enjoyment of the full sprawling statement pieces. Dinner will follow in the Cour Marly, with the gala’s afterparty held under the museum’s iconic I.M. Pei pyramid.
