We have seen some fantastically talented latex designers, models, magazines, portals, yearly events, and latex makers come and go through the years. There are a multitude of reasons why one person stays in business, in any business, and lots of time that has nothing to do with what a person does or even how they do it. Surely, we all saw so many retail shops and restaurants fail to survive the shutdown, and quite frankly we were worried for all our fellow designers, no matter what textile they might have been working in, when the supply chain split its links across all kinds of businesses.
Sorry as we are to see anybody give up their livelihood, it strikes especially close to home when it is one of our own, even if a designer might be technically competition in making latex couture.
We received a sure shock to what we do when Rebecca Allsop closed up shop last year. Through her company Yummy Gummy Latex, we bought a large amount of our colored latex sheeting. We knew Rebecca always hoped to re-open and continue the legacy that she had started in 2013, now we have all learned that Yummy Gummy will live on.
It will soon be launched as a converted brand with new owners, Yuki and Ruka of the bespoke latex clothing brand Se’tyo.
UK-based Yummy Gummy Latex was well known for its hand-poured sheeting production. This resulted in latex that could be made in fantastic colors, and often sported multicolored effects; the company’s glitter colors, marbled latex, and textured patterns were something we availed ourselves of often. Knowing that no two sheets from Yummy Gummy would ever be alike, what Yummy Gummy produced surely set them in a league of their own in the latex wardrobe world.
Yummy Gummy also produced ready-to-wear clothing for men and women, as well as filling bespoke requests for custom orders.
New owners Yuki and Ruka were customers of Yummy Gummy, loved working with Rebecca, and are fans of the array of colors she produced. They are reported as stating that they will maintain the Yummy Gummy latex brand while incorporating their design ideas, and for the immediate future, Rebecca will stay on board.
