Being carried to the stage by actors Andrew Scott and Jonathan Bailey while dressed in red latex and heels, singer Kylie Minogue surely made it clear what a star she still is performing at BST Hyde Park last week. The 56-year-old Australian pop diva is no stranger to cavorting in stunningly sexy stage wardrobe, but Kyle was not to be outdone this night in her latex couture.
Caught backstage before her appearance, casually dressed in a ball cap, silver pants, and sneakers (https://www.womanandhome.com/fashion/fashion-news/kylie-minogue-bst-outfit/) when the lady said to the folks at BTS “I can’t wait to return to BST Hyde Park this summer. My last appearance at this iconic event was in 2015 and it was a truly unforgettable experience. So excited to see you all again!” nobody could have dreamed of her soon-to-be-startling transformation.
But this is what pop divas do best; defying our expectations and surprising us over a decade-long career where other, younger singers are forever nipping at their platform heels and challenging the fashion of the times all the time.
And really, we shouldn’t be surprised by this lady’s latex choice. We’ve all seen the “Padam Padam” singer in latex before (and red latex at that). Just last year during her Las Vegas residency at the Voltaire nightclub Kylie wore a different red latex ensemble alongside a bunch of other costumes. She also sported a latex catsuit in 2011 for her “Confide In Me” video, which she discusses here.
As we know some singers, male, and female, become synonymous with certain outfits, even in the face of changing times and styles. And it’s forever a subjective call if this star or that wears what they do well or not. But we know how latex can be both oh-so-sexy but oh-so-unforgiving, more so than so many other textiles.
Let’s just say Kylie Minogue kicked her latex look out of the…Hyde Park.
