Style At The CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards

And once again Nicki Minaj showed off her best fetish clothing style at a haute couture gathering.

In a custom-made Alexander Wang outfit of bra top, shorts, cape-all in black-the “Where Them Girls At” singer certainly made heads turn at the The CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards held the other night. But right on Nicki’s strappy heels were plenty of other high fashion, colorful and stylish wildness paraded around the 14year-old event.

Plus-sized super model Ashley Graham, who graces the pages of November’s New York Magazine’s Fashion Issue in various Marilyn Monroe outfits and poses, came in a slinky tight white Victor Glemaud gown. While Hilary Rhoda was as much slinking (in her own way) in long gold. Not to be outdone in the alt. sartorial department, Teyana Taylor walked across the red carpet in a black dress with an open top and thigh-high black boots, while Leyna Bloom was wearing a Chromat red bra top attached by garters to a long equally red skirt.

Telfar Clemens of his self-named label, a designer who has dressed everyone from Solange Knowles to White Castle workers, won the $400,000.00 top prize of the night. In his speech he said: “I know it’s been a hard, long road but that’s what pioneers do. This is coming back to Queens.” The CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards were held In Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

With next year’s Met Gala theme just officially confirmed, “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination,” it’s obvious that these celebrity fashion events, competitions, fashion shows and galas, all look to make significant contributions. They influence and expose the fashion world, as they do culture on a grand scale, with everyone watching, posting and posing. It’s just heartening to keep seeing alternative wardrobe styling, albeit only a few really standing out at this year’s CFDA, making their mark.

We can always rely on the Nicki to wow us.
