“Working with Latex” from Catasta Charisma

U.K. latex artist/designer and certainly a world-class educator, Catasta Charisma has released a new manual for our most favorite material, Working with Latex.  If you are familiar with Charisma’s other guides, The Compendium of Rubber Garment Making, and his manual for the ultimate latex accessory The Hood, you know this is one fashion artisan who knows well of what …

Part 3: 2019 (and the past decade) Fashion Statements (and Questions?)

In our continuing coverage of past couture moments from 2019 and this decade, be they latex couture or not, here are some “fashion statements” and ‘questions’ both. Although we have been known to sell latex thongs, does anyone recall Boohoo.com introducing their “Basic V Neck Ruched Front Thong Bodysuit” this past year? The ‘front thong’ …

2019 Fashions, Part 2: The Couture Relevancy Of Greta Gerwig’s ‘Little Women’

Keeping with the theme of important fashion moments and trends of 2019—although this one is not about latex couture—a late-in-the-year entry is making current news. Greta Gerwig’s soon-to-be-released Little Women is being cited as much for its excellent movie story-telling as its relevant fashion. The film’s costume designer, Jacqueline Durran, has employed what is called “prairie trend” style (also …

Latex Couture 2019, Part 1

In her fashion review of Paris haute couture spring lines, reported at the end of January, Venessa Friedman offered this question as her article’s title: Latex at Givenchy and Chaos at Margiela. Is This the New Oscar Dressing? Both houses revealed models walking the famous runway in various latex outfits and accessories. And so, it comes to that …

John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John: Grease Couture Redux

Although neither was wearing any latex couture, still, we can’t ignore that the costumes John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John wore at the finale of Grease iconic. In their matching leather jackets and John’s stunning (and tight) black silk leggings, when “Sandy” surprises “Danny” at the school fair at the end of the movie, she hits back at …

Fetish Map, LondoN

We hear words like ‘fetish,’ ‘alternative,’ ‘sexy’ and ‘underground’ bandied about so often making and selling the latex wardrobe we do. Happy to be included in any person’s day-to-day haute couture, their event wear, or even some midnight bedroom rendezvous, all we care about is that people enjoy what they wear, be it latex, cotton …

T.V. Costuming This Week: Mrs. Maisel & Jennifer Lopez

We can’t report on any latex couture managing center cultural stage this week. But with the return of Netflix’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and what Jennifer Lopez revealed on her 3rd SNL hosting, there was still plenty to consider in the world of T.V. costuming. Costume designer Donna Zakowska has had her hands full with pretty and …

Chasing Black Widow’s White Costume

Although PVC, not latex, we’ve still always had our eye on Black Widow’s costume. It’s been difficult to ignore the shapely sexy Scarlett Johansson since we first met the onscreen persona of Natalia Alianova “Natasha” Romanova in The Avengers. Now we learn Marvel Studios Director of Visual Development Andy Park is planning two new costumes for …

About Time: Fashion and Duration

Not that latex couture slips into it all that often, still one of the fashion world’s yearly highlights is the annual Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute’s exhibition. And as a premier textile art event, we wanted to report that The Met just announced that this year’s exhibition will be called “About Time: Fashion and …

Angelina Jolie, Dressed Or Not

It’s not just who wears what latex outfit or semi-alternative fashion we are interested in (or come to blog about). Sometimes, it’s a question of what somebody might not be wearing or nothing much at all, that might catch our attention and respect. Fetish couture, sexy onstage costumes, and even the occasional tasteful nude interests us all, …

Stepping Into The Haus Of Gaga, Las Vegas

A few blogs back, we bragged about contributing some latex accessories (gloves to be exact) to a Lady Gaga Haus Of Gaga video campaign. Well, just recently, we had occasion to stop in the Hause Of Gaga store at the Park MGM in Las Vegas. Lady Gaga’s “Enigma” residency shares the Park MGM’s Park Theatre with Aerosmith’s …

NYC COMIC CON 2019

Latex couture, copious body paint, and lots of skin (male and female); once again, NYC Comic Con 2019 did not disappoint. Very much filled to the brim with cosplayers, like Dragon Con in Atlanta that we recently attended (see here), what seemed to come across loud and clear at the Jacob Javits Convention Center 10/3-10/6 …

The World Of Wearable Art…Yet Again

The attention and accolades we continue to enjoy with our latex outfits winning at WOW are amazing. The links below take you to the latest in World of Wearable Art news where Dawnamatrix was lucky enough to be featured in some way.

Bridal Fashion Week…Sans Latex

Two recent articles, one from the New York Times and one from Fashionista, reported on new bridal dresses from the just past New York Bridal Fashion Week, with not a mention of latex anywhere. Not that we were expecting something radically alternative at Bridal Week, and there is actually some cool stuff that seems to be trending presently, but one always has hope to catch a truly alternative fashion or some latex wedding couture.

WOW, New Zealand and Gemini: The Twins

For three years in a row, we have been honored to have won awards at WOW and two of those three years, the first and this last one, Ben and I traveled to New Zealand. As we have always found both times visiting, New Zealand is just so wonderful and the capital city, where WOW is held, Wellington, so welcoming to WOW.

Halloween Costumes for 2019

Beyond Yandy (which we will spin back to in a second), there are lots of new Halloween costume choices of which to partake. According to Pinterest’s yearly round-up, the #1 couple costume of the year is anything but sexy.

Badass Gals: Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)

The action here kicks off with Quinn cutting her cotton-candy colored hair over her break up with the Joker. Seeking other ‘unfulfilled’ women, Harley Quinn amasses a gang around her; Jurnee Smollett-Bell as “Black Canary,” Rosie Perez playing “Renee Montoya,” Mary Elizabeth Winstead as “Huntress,” (‘accessorizing’ with her crossbow) and Ella Jay Basco as “Cassandra Cain.”

London Fetish Weekend 2019

Checking in with the Emmy’s, J.Lo and Margaret Atwood

Time to time here on our latex couture blog/culture alt. fashion blog, we like to check in with what celebrities and well-known persons are doing. Surely, the just-passed Fashion Weeks, the Emmy Awards, regular reality-star Instagram posts give us plenty of wardrobe fodder to comment on or expose, and this past week was no exception. Even Margaret Atwood weighed in.

Savage x Fenty Premiers on Amazon Prime

Although we all certainly love or latex couture, one might not miss seeing our most favorite material in all that Rihanna gives us with her new Savage x Fenty collection. At the recent New York Fashion Week, Rihanna presented a dance-led show for her fashion line at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn.

New York’s Spring Fashion Week: Celebrity Gazing

One could argue that the couture celebrities wear at the various Fashion Weeks— latex accessorizing, leather or maybe even rubber outfits, ‘street’ styles, etc.—garner as much notice as the couture being seen on runway presentations. Sure, this is to be expected in our hyper-celebrity culture

Celebrating Photographer Icon Peter Lindbergh

Although more in the mainstream fashion world than the alternate couture one, famed photographer Peter Lindbergh, who died this week, captured all there was of clothes, the people who wore them, and even the times more than most of his contemporaries.

2019 VMAs Fashions

Taylor Swift came in a colorful and diamond jeweled Versace blazer and black Christian knee-high boots, Halsey managed to sneak in a black waist cincher in the middle of her open dress. And as we have come to expect, Queen Latifah showed-off her usual wardrobe class in a sedate yet sexy Sergio Hudson orange suit.

GLOW’s 3rd Season Costuming Wrestles Us Into Sweet Submission

This time, the lady wrestlers, and their producers are part of what soon becomes a successful Las Vegas residency at the fictional “Fan-Tan Hotel and Casino.” This allowed the show’s costume designer, Beth Morgan to expand her usual glitz and wild flare with not just the influence of mid-80’s fashions but the legendary sartorial look of Las Vegas
